Plush That Does a Second Job

A soft toy sits on a shelf. A plush cushion sits on a sofa where someone actually uses it every day, and a cushion that unfolds into a blanket earns its place twice over. That difference matters commercially. Products in this category get used rather than displayed, which means they get seen, replaced and reordered.

We produce custom plush cushions, shaped decorative pillows, two in one cushion blankets, promotional branded cushions, novelty food shapes and plush backpacks. The construction is closer to soft furnishing than to toy making, but the safety standards are the same and we build to both.

Clients here split into two groups. Retail and gift brands developing a product line, and corporate buyers ordering branded cushions in volume for campaigns, client gifts and staff programmes. The second group tends to reorder annually, which makes it worth setting up properly the first time.

Built for daily use

Cushions get leaned on, sat on and thrown. Seam construction and filling density are specified for repeated compression rather than for a toy that mostly sits still.

Branding that survives washing

Logos are embroidered or applied with a method chosen for the fabric, so a corporate cushion still carries a readable mark after a year in an office.

Volume ready

Promotional cushion runs go into the thousands. The batches in our catalog are actual production, not a staged photograph of a sample.

Signature Product

Two in One Cushion Blankets

A cushion on the outside with a full size blanket folded inside it. Zip it closed and it is a decorative cushion. Open it and there is a blanket. It is the product we are asked for most often in this category, and the one that performs best as a corporate gift.

Two in one cushion blanket folded into its character cushion form on a sofa
Closed. A normal decorative cushion.
Character cushion unfolded to show the full size blanket stored inside
Open. The same item, unfolded.
Navy promotional cushion blanket with an embroidered gold logo shown beside the unfolded blanket
The corporate version. Embroidered logo on the cushion face, plain blanket inside, supplied in a gift box.

Why it works as a corporate gift

Most branded merchandise gets used once and forgotten. A cushion blanket goes on a sofa and stays there, carrying your client's logo in someone's living room for years rather than sitting in a drawer.

  • Two products in one unit cost, which reads as generous without doubling the budget
  • The logo sits on the cushion face, visible even when the blanket is not in use
  • Folds small enough to post, unlike a blanket on its own
  • Works as a retail item and a corporate gift from the same tooling

We produce these in character form for retail and in plain embroidered form for corporate programmes. Blanket size, cushion dimensions, fabric weight and closure type are all specified per order.

What We Produce in This Category

Six product types, all built on soft furnishing construction rather than toy construction, and all made to the same safety standards.

Shaped Decorative Cushions

Clouds, hearts, stars, flowers and custom silhouettes for home décor and gift retail. Shape complexity drives cost here far more than size does, since every curve is another pattern piece.

Two in One Cushion Blankets

Our most requested item in this category. A cushion that opens into a full size blanket, produced in character form for retail and in embroidered plain form for corporate gifting.

Promotional Branded Cushions

Logo cushions for corporate campaigns, client gifts and events. Produced in the thousands with print or embroidery consistency checked through the run.

Novelty Food Cushions

Donuts, fruit slices, avocados and other food shapes. Strong sellers in gift retail and on social media, where an unusual shape does the marketing for you.

Character Cushions and Neck Pillows

Character pillows, travel neck pillows and matching sets. Producing a cushion and neck pillow as a pair costs little more than one and sells noticeably better.

Plush Backpacks and Bags

Soft backpacks, pouches and zip bags with padded straps and reinforced seams. Wearable plush carries different safety requirements from cushions, particularly on strap length and fastenings.

How a Custom Cushion or Bag Is Developed

Six stages. Stage three is where this category differs most from soft toy production.

Send your brief

Artwork, logo files, a shape sketch or a reference product. Tell us the intended dimensions and whether it is for retail shelf or corporate gifting, since packaging differs completely.

Fabric and fill selection

Cushions get compressed daily, so fill density matters more than in a toy. We match filling to whether the item is decorative, functional or both.

Branding method

Embroidery, print, appliqué or woven label, chosen for the fabric rather than by default. A print that looks sharp on cotton can crack on velvet within months.

Sample and approval

Delivered within 7 working days once sample and shipping payment is received. For cushion blankets we send it closed and open so you can check both states.

Mass production

Branding placement is fixed against the approved sample. Seams are checked through the run and every unit passes a metal detector before packing.

Packing and dispatch

Retail polybags with safety labelling, or gift boxes for corporate programmes. Cushions compress well, which usually makes freight cheaper than buyers expect.

Cushion and Plush Bag Questions

Questions specific to this category. For general manufacturing questions, see the FAQ on our homepage.

How does a two in one cushion blanket actually work?

The blanket is stitched into the cushion cover along one edge and folds into the cushion body. A concealed zip or velcro closure holds it shut. Open the closure, pull the blanket out, and the empty cover stays attached rather than becoming a separate piece to lose.

Cushion size, blanket size and fabric weight are all specified per order. A larger blanket needs a larger cushion to hide it, so the two dimensions are decided together rather than separately.

What filling should I choose for cushions?

Graded PP cotton is standard and suits most decorative and gift cushions. It holds shape well, washes acceptably and costs the least.

Memory foam suits neck pillows and anything intended for genuine support rather than decoration. Microbeads give that flowing, mouldable feel popular in travel cushions but add weight and freight cost. Shredded foam sits between the two. Tell us how the cushion will be used and we will recommend rather than default.

Which branding method lasts longest on plush fabric?

Embroidery, by a clear margin. It survives washing, compression and years of handling in a way that surface print does not. That is why the corporate cushions in our catalog are almost all embroidered rather than printed.

Print still has its place. Fine detail, photographic imagery and large multi colour graphics are impractical to embroider and print handles them well. The honest rule is that print suits short campaigns and embroidery suits anything intended to last, and we will tell you which category your job falls into.

Can you produce promotional cushions in large volumes?

Yes. Promotional cushion runs into the thousands are routine, and the batch photographs in our catalog are actual production rather than staged samples.

Corporate work almost always has a fixed date attached, whether that is a conference, a product launch or a year end gift programme. Tell us the date before we quote and we will schedule backwards from it, including the sample approval round which is the part most buyers forget to allow for.

Are plush backpacks held to different safety rules than cushions?

Yes, and this catches importers out. Anything worn on the body carries requirements a cushion does not, particularly around cords and strap length for children's products, where there are limits designed to prevent entanglement.

Tell us the destination market and the intended age group at inquiry stage. The requirements differ between the United States and the European Union, and it is far cheaper to design to them than to discover the problem when a shipment is inspected.

Can you turn one character into a cushion, a bag and a toy?

Yes, and it is usually the most efficient way to build a range. The character artwork and much of the pattern development carry across, so the second and third formats cost considerably less to develop than the first.

If a range is the plan, tell us at the start rather than after the first item is finished. Knowing all three formats up front lets us make pattern decisions that work across them instead of optimising for one and adapting awkwardly for the others.

Can cushions be washed?

It depends on construction. A removable zip cover can be machine washed easily and is worth specifying for anything used daily. A fully closed cushion is surface clean only.

Removable covers add a little to unit cost and noticeably to product life. For corporate gifting they are usually worth it, since a cushion that can be cleaned stays in use and keeps carrying the logo.

How does packaging affect freight cost on cushions?

More than most buyers expect. Cushions are light but bulky, so shipping cost is driven by volume rather than weight. Compression packing can significantly reduce carton count on a large order.

The trade off is presentation. A vacuum compressed cushion needs time to recover its shape after opening, which is fine for warehouse stock and poor for a gift box opened at an event. We will flag which approach suits your use case.

What is your minimum order quantity?

MOQ depends on shape complexity and the number of variants. A simple square promotional cushion in one colourway carries a low minimum. A custom shaped cushion blanket with multiple colourways needs its own pattern set per variant, which raises it.

Tell us the product, the size and how many variants you are planning, and we will confirm the exact figure with your quotation.

Do you work with small brands and first time buyers?

Yes. Alongside corporate volume work we regularly produce for small gift brands, independent retailers and businesses ordering custom cushions for the first time.

You do not need a tech pack. Send a sketch, a photo or a logo file, tell us your realistic budget and volume, and we will tell you honestly what is achievable at that level rather than quoting something you cannot use.

What are your payment terms?

We accept bank transfer (T/T) only, structured as a 30 percent deposit with the 70 percent balance paid before shipment.

EXW, FOB, CIF and DAP pricing are all available, so you can choose whichever incoterm fits how your freight is already organised.

If your project fits one of these more specifically, start there.
